
Women's basketball team wraps up regular season Saturday on the road
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team will wrap up the regular season on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Titans are 13-4 in the Citrus Conference and 21-7 overall heading into a road game at Hillsborough Community College. The conference game will tip off at 2 p.m. as both teams have clinched their spot in the NJCAA Region VIII Basketball Tournament.
"We've faced every challenge head on, growing stronger as a team with each game. Now, with one final test on the road against HCC before states, we're ready to leave it all on the court," Eastern Florida State College women's basketball coach MJ Baker said. "The regular season has prepared us for this moment – now it's all or nothing!"
Eastern Florida State College won the first two meetings this season, but this will be the first time the Titans will be at Hillsborough Community College. The Titans won the first two meetings, 85-65 and 65-49.
The game will feature two of the top five scoring teams in the state as Hillsborough is averaging 77.4 points per game while the Titans are averaging 73.1. Defensively, the Titans are holding opponents to 55.8 points per game this season which is second in the FCSAA.
Hillsborough Community College has won the past two games and is 7-3 in the past 10 games. The Hawks are 8-8 in the conference standings and will honor their sophomores on Saturday afternoon. Maisel Reyes comes into the game averaging 18.9 points per game and has scored at least 15 in each of the past eight games. Reyes is averaging 16 points per game in the two meetings against the Titans.
The Titans are 8-2 in the past 10 games and are led by sophomore E'Zaria Adams who is averaging 11.4 points per game while Jalei O'Neal is averaging 10.4 points and five rebounds per game.
Karen Nimo has had some of her best games this season against the Hawks and is averaging 21 points per game in the two games. For the season the freshman is averaging 10.1 points off the bench. Ashleigh Battle has scored 15 points in each of the two games.
