Women's basketball team defeats Santa Fe on the road
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team hit some big shots down the stretch to pick up the road win Wednesday night.
The No. 21 Titans defeated Santa Fe College 51-43 to improve to 20-6 overall and 12-3 in the conference.
Down one to begin the fourth quarter, the Titans outscored the Saints 17-8 in the final quarter to pick up the win. Ashleigh Battle took the lead early in the fourth with a 3-pointer and Claudia Peiro Jimenez put the game away under a minute left with her 3-pointer.
The game got off to a slow start as Eastern Florida State College led 8-7 after one quarter and it was 19-15 at halftime.
But both teams got things going in the third quarter as Jazelle Young scored six of the first eight of the Titans points in the third quarter as the lead went as high as eight before a couple of late 3-pointers by Santa Fe gave the Saints a lead.
It was the second straight win for the Titans who have won eight of the past nine and have three conference games left in the regular season.
Young finished with 10 points while Battle had eight and Jalei O'Neal had eight points and nine rebounds in the win.
The Titans will be back in action next Wednesday evening as the women's team will travel to Daytona State College for a conference game beginning at 5 p.m.
