Women's basketball team tops East Georgia State at TSC Classic
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team wrapped up the TSC Classic with another win to finish the weekend 2-0.
The Titans, who are now 5-0 overall and ranked 20th in the NJCAA Division I poll, defeated East Georgia State College 69-61 on Saturday afternoon in Tallahassee.
Freshman Karen Nimo recorded her first double-double of the season, scoring a team-high 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds with three steals.
The team trailed 11-5 with four minutes and 35 seconds left in the first quarter when Nimo hit a 3-pointer, made a steal and hit the layup to cut the East Georgia State lead to one. She would hit another 3-pointer to give the Titans a 13-12 lead. The Titans would finish the first quarter with a 20-17 lead.
The Titans went on a run in the second quarter, outscoring East Georgia State 13-4 in the final seven minutes of the quarter to lead 39-29 at halftime.
East Georgia State College came out of halftime red hot, hitting two 3-pointers and quickly tied things up 39-39. The Titans trailed by as many as four in the quarter but a key 3-pointer from Nimo kept things close and the Titans headed to the fourth quarter trailing 56-55.
The game continued to be tight until an injury to an East Georgia State team halted the game. When they resumed, the Titans finished strong to pull away and pick up the win.
Teammate Jalei O'Neal finished with 12 points, three rebounds, three steals and a couple of assists. Lynn Rieth and E'Zaria Adams each finished with 11 points in the game.
The Titans will play in the PSC Classic next weekend in Pensacola on Friday and Saturday before the home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
