Women's basketball team tops South Georgia Tech in Tallahassee
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team held on for a victory against South Georgia Tech at the TSC Classic in Tallahassee on Friday night.
The Titans, who are ranked 20th in the preseason national poll, defeated the Jets 50-47 to improve to 4-0 on the season.
The Titans led the entire first half and started the third quarter with a seven-point lead but a quick run by the Jets to start the third quarter made it a three-point lead. South Georgia Tech cut it to one with three minutes left in the third quarter and a steal and basket in the final seconds of the quarter gave the Jets their first lead.
It reached five points early in the fourth quarter but the Titans fought back as Karen Nimo scored five straight points to tie the game. It remained very close until an Ashleigh Battle steal led to a E'Zaria Adams basket and then Nimo hit a 3-pointer and then another basket to give the Titans a 46-40 lead with 2:57 remaining. Battle would hit a 3-pointer with 1:09 left to give the Titans a six-point lead once again. They would hang on for the win.
Lynn Rieth scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds while Nimo finished with 10 points.
Eastern Florida State College will play East Georgia State College at noon on Saturday in the tournament.
