
Women's basketball team falls short in overtime
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team fell short in an overtime thriller against Miami Dade College Saturday afternoon.
The No. 20 ranked Titans forced overtime with a last-second basket but a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in overtime gave Miami Dade College a big 89-88 victory.
Eastern Florida State College is now tied with the Sharks for second place in the loss column but is 2-1 against Miami Dade this season. Miami Dade has two games left while the Titans have one.
The Titans were leading by double digits in the fourth quarter, but Miami Dade went on a late run and took the lead with 9.8 seconds remaining. The Sharks lead would be two with 1.6 seconds left but Ashleigh Battle found Amanda Baumgarte for a basket with less than a second left to send the game to overtime tied 81-81.
In overtime Tamara Elliot scored six of the seven points in overtime for the Titans as well as a steal and big rebound to keep the Titans out front for most of the overtime period.
However, up two and time winding down Jamesha Card hit a 3-pointer for Miami Dade with 25 seconds left and the Titans shot was blocked at the end of the game.
Elliot finished with a season-high 19 points in the game while Jazelle Young and E'Zaria Adams each finished with 14 points. Battle had 13 points in the loss.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Hillsborough Community College next Saturday for the final regular-season game for the Titans. Saturday's game will begin at 2 p.m. The team has qualified for the FCSAA Region 8 State Tournament which begins Wednesday, March 12.
