Women's basketball team tops Miami Dade for conference road win
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team picked up a conference road win on Saturday afternoon.
The 23rd ranked Titans handed Miami Dade College its first Citrus Conference loss of the season, defeating the Sharks 56-49 to improve to 3-1 in the conference.
Trailing with just under five minutes left in the fourth quarter, Marta Vieira hit her second 3-pointer of the game to give the Titans a 47-46 lead. Teammate Amanda Baumgarte would follow that with a 3-pointer of her own and the Titans had a four-point lead.
From there Ashleigh Battle hit all four of her free throws and Vieira went 2-for-2 in the final seconds to lock up the victory.
The two teams traded the lead 11 times in the game and the Titans bench proved to be the difference as they outscored the Miami Dade bench 18-0.
Battle scored in double figures for the second straight game, leading the Titans with 14 points while teammate Tamara Elliot had a season-high 12 points and Vieira had nine points off the bench.
Cleaira Peterson had a double-double for Miami Dade, scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as the Sharks fell to 3-1 in the conference.
