
Women's basketball team returns to conference play Saturday
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team will jump back into conference play Saturday afternoon in a battle of the top two teams in the Citrus Conference.
The 23rd ranked Titans will travel to Florida Southwestern State College for a 2 p.m. tipoff in Fort Myers. Florida Southwestern is ranked 18th in the national poll and is unbeaten in the conference this season at 6-0. The Titans are 5-1 with the only loss coming to Florida Southwestern in the conference opener.
Eastern Florida State College is coming off a tough weekend of games in Georgia and got back on track against Northeast Mississippi Community College at the Lady Jets Classic. The defense is allowing teams just 54.1 points per game which leads the conference and is second in the FCSAA.
Offensively, the Titans are led by Karen Nimo who is averaging 13.9 points per game and is coming off a 21-point performance. Point guard Ashleigh Battle has scored at least eight points in three of the last four games while Jalei O'Neal has scored 11 points in each of the past two games and is averaging 11 points per game this season. E'Zaria Adams has scored at least 10 points in four of her past five games including a 21-point performance against South Georgia Tech.
Florida Southwestern is led by Samantha Serrano who is fifth in the state in scoring, averaging 17.7 points per game. The freshman guard has scored at least 22 points in each of the past three games for the Bucs. Teammates Asiana Britt, Ivy Brown and Sarah Owona are all averaging at least 11 points per game this season.
Both teams come into the matchup scoring 72 points per game this season.
