Baseball team falls in Division I play-in game
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team lost in the FCSAA Division I play-in game at St. Johns River State College on Tuesday evening.
The Titans lost to Pensacola State College 9-3 as the Pirates advanced into the Division I Regionals.
Pensacola State College got out to a fast start with back-to-back doubles and led 2-0 after the first inning.
Down 4-0, the Titans scored twice in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead in half as Shane Thomas hit a bouncing ball that scored both Bo Tabola and Gustavo Mendez.
Pensacola scored two in the fifth inning to go up 6-2.
The Titans loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning as Ryan Cerrone and Jason Mack singled and then Bryce Pax earned the walk. Kevin Smith would hit a sacrifice fly but that was the only run EFSC would get. Down 6-3, Pensacola would score three times in the bottom of the seventh and picked up the win.
"This team fought through injuries and played hard from beginning to end, I could not be more proud of them," Eastern Florida State College baseball coach Steven Brown said.
Eastern Florida State College made the postseason for the first time in eight seasons and finished the season 29-22.
