Baseball team shuts out Coastal Alabama-North in Panama City Beach
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team opened the Visit Panama City Beach College Baseball Classic with a shutout on Friday afternoon.
The Titans, who improved to 5-0 on the season, scored six times in the top of the first inning and went on to defeat Coastal Alabama Community College North 9-0 at Publix Sports Park.
The first three batters reached base and then Kevin Smith scored on Bryce Jackson's walk, then Bo Tabola scored when Jason Mack was hit by a pitch. Nick Paszt stepped up and ripped a double, scoring three more runs and would then score the sixth run of the inning on Jeff Davis' single.
Owen Simmons took the mound for the Titans and threw six shutout innings, allowing just two hits, striking out six. Simmons got into a bit of trouble in the fifth inning but induced the groundball for a double play to get out of the bases-loaded jam without allowing a run. It was the second double play the Titans turned Friday.
Michael Benedict pitched the seventh inning.
Jeff Davis went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Jackson also had two RBI in the win.
The Titans will play twice on Saturday, facing Wallace-Dothan Community College at 1:30 p.m. and then Chipola College at 4:30 p.m.
