
Baseball team splits doubleheader on the road
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team split a Citrus Conference doubleheader on the road Saturday.
Eastern Florida State College, who is now 10-11 in the conference, scored twice in the seventh but could not tie the game, falling 5-4 in the first game but came back to win the second game 12-2 in five innings.
In Game 1, St. Petersburg took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning but the Titans came back in the top of the fourth with two runs on RBI singles from Bryce Pax and Jackson Wargo.
St. Petersburg would regain the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 5-2.
Eastern Florida State College took advantage of a couple of errors as Jeff Davis singled scoring Isiah Santiago to make it 5-3. Jason Mack hit a groundball that scored Bryce Jackson to make it 5-4. Pax was intentionally walked and it worked as St. Petersburg got the final out to hold on for the win.
Pax went 3-for-3 in the game.
In Game 2, the Titans got on the board early as Jeff Davis scored on an error and then Bo Tabola scored on Ryan Cerrone's sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning.
Up 2-0, the Titans exploded for six runs in the second inning. Tabola singled scoring both Richard Collazo and Jackson Wargo. Then Cerrone hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
Gustavo Mendez singled to score Tabola and it was 6-0 and then Jason Mack singled to score Mendez and Pax singled to score Shane Thomas.
Up 8-0 after two innings, the Titans scored four more times in the top of the fifth inning to make it 12-0. They would win 12-2 in five innings.
Davis went 3-for-3 with three runs scored while Tabola was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Mendez also had two hits and drove in three runs. Shane Thomas and Mack also had two hits in the game.
Michael Benedict picked up the win, allowing two runs over 4 2/3 innings.
Eastern Florida State College will open a conference series with Polk State College Thursday at Bruce Bochy Field. The game will begin at 5 p.m. and admission is free to games at Bruce Bochy Field. Fans can also watch the game live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
