The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team lost to No. 1 Miami Dade College in a Citrus Conference match Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House.
The 15th-ranked Titans won the first set but lost the next three highly-contested sets to the Sharks, 25-23, 21-25, 17-25, 21-25.
The two teams traded points throughout the first set and was tied 15 times but at 23-23, freshman Lesmary Raffucci had a kill to give the Titans a set point and then Sarah Henault made a nice serve and the duo of Libby Ashline and Aliah Snider blocked the shot for the set win.
Up 1-0, the Titans throughout the early stages of the second set until a yellow card seemed to spark Miami Dade College. Tied 17-17 the Sharks would score the next five points to take a 22-17 lead. A Henault ace would cut the lead to 23-20 and cause a timeout by Miami Dade, but the would hang on for the 25-21 win and even the series.
The third set was all Sharks early as they would take a 14-3 lead before the Titans would respond. Down 12 in the set, Dominae Jordan would record three straight kills and the Titans would score six straight points to trail 19-13. The deficit would be too much and Miami Dade took a 2-1 lead.
The fourth set was tight once again as the Titans came out playing strong and an Emma Cook kill gave them the lead at 11-10. It was the first of three straight points and four of five. The teams would be tied 16-16, 18-18 and 19-19 before a run by the Sharks ended up being too much for the Titans to come back from.
Jordan finished with 12 kills while teammate Raffucci finished with 11.
The Titans are scheduled to host No. 2 Florida Southwestern on Wednesday night, weather permitting.
