Women's volleyball team falls in conference opener
The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team opened the Citrus Conference season with a four-set loss on the road.
The 19th ranked Titans lost to No. 2 Miami Dade 25-17, 21-25, 16-25, 11-25 Wednesday night.
The Titans got off to a strong start as Aliah Snider's ace gave them a 6-5 lead and things would remain tight until the Titans went on a six-point run to come from a point down to grab a 19-14 lead. From there the Titans would keep the lead, taking the first set.
The Titans got down early to Miami Dade in the second set but would get back to within one point on a Dominae Jordan kill making it 21-20 Sharks. But Miami Dade would score four of the final five points to tie the match 1-1.
The third set was tight early and the teams were tied 15-15. But from that point it was all Sharks as the second-ranked team went on a 10-1 run to finish the third set. It would continue into the fourth set as Miami Dade rolled to the victory.
Jordan led the Titans with 15 kills while Sophia Iglesias had 30 setter assists.
Eastern Florida State College will head to No. 1 Florida Southwestern on Saturday afternoon. The Citrus Conference match will begin at 2 p.m. in Fort Myers.
