
Volleyball team tops Mineral Area in five sets
The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team defeated Mineral Area College in the first match of the Blazer Classic at Vincennes University on Friday.
The 20th-ranked Titans picked up their sixth win of the season, winning 25-11, 24-26, 25-15, 17-25 and 15-11.
The Titans jumped out to a 6-2 lead as Dominae Jordan had a couple of early kills. Eastern Florida State College continued to add to the lead and went on a run to end the first set, serving out the final four points to win the first set. But Mineral Area took an early advantage in the second set and led 18-12 before the Titans fought back. Down six the Titans turned to the middle and sophomore Libby Ashline responded with three kills in a row to help the team tie the match 21-21. But Mineral Area held on for the 26-24 win.
Eastern Florida State College once again came out inspired and had a 17-10 lead and then a 24-13 lead on a Lesmary Raffucci kill.
Up 2-1, the Titans could not finish the match as Mineral Area would score 13 of the next 14 points to lead 13-5. The Titans would tie the match 16-16 but once again Mineral Area went on a run and forced the fifth set.
In the fifth, the Titans jumped out to an early lead as Raffucci had a couple of big kills and ChXXXX had a couple of kills and then had a big kill to make it 12-9. A couple of blocks would make it 14-9 before ending the match 15-11.
