Women's volleyball team sweeps Hillsborough CC
The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team defeated Hillsborough Community College in straight sets for their third straight conference win on Monday night.
The No. 15 ranked Titans picked up their seventh straight set victory of the season on the road, beating the 18th-ranked Hawks 25-19, 25-20 and 25-23.
Eastern Florida State College improved to 12-6 overall and 3-2 in the conference with the victory.
A block and Lesmary Raffucci kill gave the Titans a 16-14 lead and they would stretch it out to 19-15 in the first set. Kills by Aliah Snider and Dominae Jordan down the stretch gave the Titans a 25-19 win in the first set.
The second set saw Eastern Florida State College keep the momentum, jumping out to an 8-4 lead on back-to-back kills from Raffucci. A long point stopped the run by the Titans and sparked Hillsborough as they would tie the match 8-8.
Tied 18-18, the Titans would go on a late run, scoring seven of the final nine points to take a commanding lead. Libby Ashline had two big serves to finish off the set and had three aces in the match.
Hillsborough came out strong in the third set, taking a 6-1 lead and forced an early Titans timeout. The Titans responded as Sarah Henault had an ace and served up six straight points to put EFSC in the lead. Henault finished with four aces in the match.
Jordan and Ashline had big kills late in the set to keep things tight and the Titans would finish off the sweep on a Sophia Iglesias kill.
Raffucci finished with 12 kills while Jordan had 11 in the match. Iglesias had 31 assists and Henault finished with 14 digs.
The Titans will be back at Titan Field House on Wednesday night, hosting Santa Fe College in a Citrus Conference match at 6 p.m. The game will be shown live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
