Women's golf team tees off Monday at Duran
The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team will compete in the Space Coast Collegiate Championship this week at Duran Golf Club in Viera.
Catawba College is hosting the 11-team event made up of mostly NCAA Division II teams on Monday and Tuesday. The Titans and Seminole State College will be the only junior college teams competing in the event.
Lynn University comes into the event ranked seventh in the latest NCAA Division II national poll and will be joined by No. 12 Tampa University, No. 17 Nova Southeastern University and No. 25 Barry University.
Seminole State College is No. 3 in the NJCAA Division I poll and the Titans are No. 5.
Eastern Florida State College finished in third place in the first tournament of the spring as Mila Tang was the individual champion.
"We played in windy conditions last week and they handled it OK. It was not easy conditions so was happy with that," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "Practicing in these conditions takes a lot out of players but I like what I saw from them."
Seminole State and Eastern Florida State College will get their first look at Duran Golf Club where the Southeast District Lady's Championship will be held April 14-15.
"It gives us an extra look, we are going to be playing the district tournament at Duran and now we get to play it in tournament conditions and that is always different than practice and qualifying so it is always good to play on the course," Howell said.
The first two rounds will be on Monday with the final round scheduled for Tuesday.
