Men's golf team in second after first round at district championship

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team is in second place after the first round of the NJCAA Southeast District Championship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Titans shot a 3-over 291 in the first round and is one stroke behind Central Alabama Community College. Many teams did not finish the second round due to darkness at the Ol' Colony Golf Complex on Monday.

Horace Pennix is tied for third overall after shooting 1-under 71 with a strong finish. After a bogey on No. 11 made him 2-over he would birdie 14, 16 and 18 to finish the back nine 2-under.

Teammates Masen McKain and Hugo Griesheimer each shot even par and are tied for fifth overall. McKain shot 1-under on the front nine and one over on the back while Greisheimer had birdies on 10 and 11 before a double bogey on 13. He would birdie 15 to finish the back nine 1-under.

Micke Laurelli shot 4-over 76 and is in 16th place while Danny Byers shot an 84.

Jefferson State Community College and Wallace State are tied for third after shooting 14-over 302 in the first round.

Teams will finish the second round and play the final round on Tuesday with the top teams advancing to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas.
