Men's golf team in second after first round in Alabama
The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team is in second place after the first round of the Coastal Alabama North Spring Invitational in Alabama.
The Titans shot 5-over 293 in the first round and is trailing Central Alabama Community College who shot a 282 at the Country Club of Brewton.
Micke Laurelli shot a 3-under 69 in the first round and is tied for third overall heading into the second round. After starting the round with a bogey, the freshman birdied No. 2 and three more to make the turn at 3-under. A double bogey on the 10th set him back but had two more birdies to finish with a 69.
Teammate Horace Pennix had an eagle on the par 4 8th hole but a couple of bogeys on the back nine put him even par for the day. Pennix heads into the final day tied for ninth overall.
Hugo Griesheimer and Danny Byers each shot 4-over and are tied for 24th while Masen McKain shot 7-over and is in 44th overall.
Jackson Spybey of Central Alabama CC leads the tournament after an opening round 65.
Jefferson State is in third with Calhoun Community College fourth in the tournament.
