Men's golf team locks up spot in national tournament for 19th straight year
The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team locked up a spot in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament on Tuesday.
The Titans finished second in the District 4 Championship in Cullman, Alabama and advanced to the national tournament for the 19th straight season.
On Tuesday the Titans shot a 300 in windy, cool conditions to finish behind District 4 champions Central Alabama Community College.
John Houchin finished fourth overall after shooting 1-under par 71 in the final round. The sophomore finished the tournament 2-under for the tournament.
Teammate Matt Gauntlett finished tied for fifth after shooting a 2-over 74 in the final round. Drew Lanier and Robert Greninger tied for ninth place overall and Brandon Boncore finished in a tie for 31st overall.
"Tough day in windy conditions. Good solid play by John Houchin and Matt Gauntlett," Eastern Florida men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We have a short turnaround to prepare for the national tournament and all that Odessa, Texas holds for the team. Congratulations go out to Central Alabama on winning the District 4 Championship."
Houchin, Gauntlett and Greninger were all named to the all-district team.
Jefferson State's Trey Rouse won the individual title, shooting 13-under for the tournament.
The NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament will be May 10-13 at the Odessa Country Club in Odessa, Texas.
