Women's basketball team opens national tournament Tuesday
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team is preparing for their third straight appearance in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.
The Titans are the No. 10 seed in the tournament and will face No. 23 North Dakota State College of Science in the first round on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. EDT.
North Dakota SCS is 27-6 this season and won the Region 13 title, beating Malcolm X City College for the North Central District title and a spot in the national tournament. The Wildcats come into the tournament on a seven-game win streak.
Shania Nichols-Vannett is averaging 16.4 points and eight rebounds per game this season while teammate Savanna Jones is averaging 13.3 points and 7.7 rebounds. The Wildcats are holding opponents to 56.5 points per game and is scoring 72.8 per game.
Eastern Florida State College received an at-large bid to the national tournament and comes into the tournament 27-4 on the season. The Titans are averaging 78 points per game led by the FCSAA Player of the Year Amelia Hassett who is averaging 19.4 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. Hassett has 21 double-doubles this season and the 12.7 rebounds is seventh in the nation.
Teammate Jaidyn Koerdt is averaging 9.8 points per game.
The national tournament will be played at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming. Tuesday's game will be shown live on ESPN+ and will be at 6:45 p.m. EDT. Fans can also keep up with how the team is doing all week on efsctitans.com or on the EFSC Titans social media pages.
