Women's basketball team cruises to conference victory
The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team cruised to another Citrus Conference victory Wednesday night at Titan Field House.
The No. 7 ranked Titans picked up the 82-52 victory over Daytona State College to improve to 18-0 in the conference and is now 23-3 on the season. Wednesday night's win was the 22nd straight victory and they have now won 42 conference games in a row.
Daytona State College jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but Amelia Hassett scored nine straight points as the Titans took an 11-7 lead. Esra Sen hit a 3-pointer to end the first quarter and give the Titans a 16-12 lead.
Eastern Florida State College would head into the locker room leading 31-24 as Hassett had 11 and Andrea Chiquemba had 10 points in the first half.
Martina Galvez Narro would hit a 3-pointer and then a runner to start the third quarter and give the Titans a 12-point lead.
Jaidyn Koerdt made a basket and was fouled, completing the three-point play and the Titans were up 16 with six minutes left in the game. Koerdt would score 10 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Titans picked up the 30-point win.
It is the third time in the past four games that the Titans have won by 30-plus points as the women's basketball team has won their conference games by an average of 28.7 points per game.
Hassett finished with her 20th double-double of the season, scoring a team-high 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Andrea Chiquemba scored a season-high 13 points with four rebounds and four assists in the win.
Eastern Florida State College will host Miami Dade College in a conference game at 2 p.m. at Titan Field House. Admission is free and you can watch the game live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
