
Softball team hosts Indian River State College Monday
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will be home Monday for a key Citrus Conference doubleheader.
The 17th-ranked Titans will host No. 3 Indian River State College beginning at 4 p.m. While Indian River State College has locked into the postseason, Eastern Florida State College is in the hunt for a spot with four games remaining.
The matchup will showcase two of the top pitchers in the state as Avery Velazquez and the Titans will take on J'Dah Girgorie and Indian River.
Velazquez is 20-9 with a 1.19 ERA and also has five saves in 37 appearances. The freshman has struck out 156 in 193 1/3 innings and has 21 complete games. At the plate, Velazquez is hitting .423 with seven home runs and has driven in 59 runs.
Girgorie is 28-2 this season with a 1.06 ERA in 34 appearances. She has struck out 201 hitters in 158 2/3 innings. She won both games earlier this season against the Titans. Indian River State College leads the nation in stolen bases with 290, led by Anaise Piar who has 46.
Eastern Florida State College lost a couple of games to No. 2 Florida Southwestern State College on Saturday and come into the doubleheader fourth in the conference. Admission is free to games at Titan Softball Complex and fans can watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
