The Eastern Florida State College softball team honored the sophomore class and then had a big day against St. Petersburg on Saturday at Titan Softball Complex.
The Titans, who are now 18-12 in the Citrus Conference, picked up a pair of five-inning wins, blanking St Petersburg 9-0 and 10-0.
In Game 1, Madison Velazquez got things going for the Titans with a three-run home run in the first inning and sister Avery Velazquez hit a two-run home run in the third inning as the Titans went on to win Game 1, 9-0.
Ashley Corazzini went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple while Madison Velazquez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Ashley Grieser drove in two runs in the win.
Avery Velazquez allowed just two hits over five shutout innings striking our four in the win.
In Game 2, the Titans had 13 hits on their way to a 10-0 win as Isabel Otero went 4-for-4 and both Aracelis Jimenez and Martha Jones hit triples.
Jessica Merk hit a two-run home run, her first of the season to make it 7-0.
Jimenez, Avery Velazquez and Merk each drove in two runs in the win. Alanna O'Brien picked up the win, allowing two hits over five shutout innings and struck out two.
Before the game the Eastern Florida State College softball program honored the six sophomores. Ashley Corazzini, Ashley Grieser, Kayla Fanning, Luci Walters, Alanna O'Brien and Zoey Mills were all recognized.
Eastern Florida State College, who is ranked 19th in the latest national poll, will host No. 7 Seminole State College Tuesday evening in a battle of top five teams in the Citrus Conference. The doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m. at Titan Softball Complex. Admission is free and fans can watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
