
Softball team hits road for conference doubleheader
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will hit the road for a big Citrus Conference series against No. 2 Florida Southwestern State College on Saturday afternoon.
The 17th ranked Titans come into the weekend 21-13 in the conference and in fourth place with six games remaining. The standings are tight with three teams with 21 wins and another with 19 heading into the final week.
Florida Southwestern leads the conference with a 31-5 record and have won six straight heading into Saturday's doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
The Bucs are second in the FCSAA in both batting average and team ERA, hitting .358 as a team and has a 1.65 ERA.
Skylar Brennan is hitting .435 this season which is third in the state and had multi-hit games in the past two games and has a three-game hitting streak. She has 16 doubles and six home runs while teammate Noelani Livingstone is hitting .433.
Leah Meyer has made 24 starts for the Bucs and has a 1.74 ERA and 13 complete games. She is two strikeouts away from 100 on the season.
Freshman Avery Velazquez is having a big first season for the Titans. The Ocoee native is fourth in the FCSAA with a 1.12 ERA and has 20 wins which is third in the state. Velazquez has struck out 153 hitters this season which is second in the state and leads the FCSAA in saves with five.
At the plate, Velazquez has driven in 59 runs which is third in the state. She comes into the weekend hitting .426 with 19 doubles and seven home runs. She has had two hits in each of the past three games. Teammate Aracelis Jimenez is coming off a huge doubleheader against Polk State College, going 6-for-9 with four runs scored and is hitting .372 as the leadoff hitter for the Titans with 20 stolen bases.
Saturday's doubleheader in Fort Myers will begin at 1 p.m. Fans can stay up to date with the games on the EFSC Titans X page. The Titans will be back home on Monday evening against No. 3 Indian River State College. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m.
