
Softball team hosts Seminole State Tuesday in key conference doubleheader
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will host Seminole State College Tuesday evening in a battle for fourth place in the Citrus Conference.
The Titans, who are now 18-12 in the conference, sit in fourth place ahead of Seminole State College who are 16-11. Both teams are coming off a win but the Titans have won nine of the last 10 games while Seminole State College split with Miami Dade College on Saturday and has split the past three series.
Both teams are in the top five in the FCSAA in batting average as Seminole State College is hitting .331 while the Titans come in with a .329 average.
Izabell LaRoche comes into the week hitting .421 in 44 games with 13 doubles and six home runs this season. Teammate Julianna Nieves is hitting .412 with 13 doubles and four home runs. Makayla Nieves leads the team with eight home runs.
Eastern Florida State College is led by Avery Velazquez who is hitting .417 in 48 games with 19 doubles and six home runs while sister Madison Velazquez is hitting .411 in 29 games.
On the mound, Avery Velazquez has 19 wins this season with a 1.22 ERA and 135 strikeouts in 172 innings.
Seminole State is led by Shaylen Byrd who has 14 wins and a 1.50 ERA with 73 strikeouts in 103 2/3 innings.
