
Softball team hits road for top-25 matchup against Miami Dade
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will hit the road for a Citrus Conference doubleheader at Miami Dade College on Tuesday.
The No. 22 ranked Titans kick off another busy week of conference games, traveling to No. 7 Miami Dade College for a series with the Sharks. The two teams opened the conference season on Feb. 25 with each team winning a game. Game 1 went 10 innings with the Sharks winning 5-3. The Titans won the second game as Aracelis Jimenez scored the game-winning run to give the Titans a 3-2 win.
On Tuesday they will meet once again as the Titans are in seventh place in the conference while Miami Dade College is in third place at 14-8 in the conference.
Eastern Florida State College's Avery Velazquez is fifth in the conference with a 1.42 ERA with 14 wins and has struck out 115 hitters in 138 innings. She is in the top five in wins, ERA and strikeouts.
Offensively, the Titans are hitting .329 which is tied for Chipola College for sixth in the state. Madison Velazquez is hitting .453 in 20 games while Avery Velazquez is hitting .421 in 38 games.
Miami Dade's Caroline Mito is second in the state, hitting .473 this season with four home runs and 31 RBI heading into the matchup. On the mound, Carina Amarillo has made 16 starts with a 1.68 ERA and is 11-3 while teammate Aimi Tohara is 8-4 with a 2.88 ERA. As a team Miami Dade is fifth in the state with a 2.29 team ERA.
Tuesday's doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m. in Miami. The Titans will be back at home Thursday against No. 19 Santa Fe College for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Titan Softball Complex.
