
Men's soccer team faces Cowley in semifinals Thursday
The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team will face Cowley College in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament semifinals on Thursday evening.
The sixth-seeded Titans will take the field at 6:30 p.m. EST at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas for a spot in the national championship game on Saturday.
Eastern Florida State College advanced to the final four by shutting out No. 3 seed Salt Lake Community College 1-0 on Tuesday evening. Lars Bekman scored the goal with six minutes left in regulation on a free kick from Luc Achermann-Stanfield. The Titans have allowed just one goal in the tournament and have now won eight games in a row heading into the semifinals.
Cowley College is the No. 3 seed in the tournament and are in the tournament for the third straight season and fifth time in the past six years.
The Tigers won the Group D title by edging Arizona Western in penalty kicks Tuesday night to advance to the semifinals for the second time in three seasons. In 2022-23, the Tigers lost to eventual national champion Monroe College in the semifinals at Eastern Florida State College.
This season the Tigers are 15-1-4 this season and opened the national tournament with a 3-1 victory over Miami Dade College on Sunday night. Cowley College has had four different goal scorers in the two games in Wichita.
No. 1 seed Iowa Western will play No. 7 seed Indian Hills in the first semifinal at 4 p.m. EST. The winners of the two semifinals will play Saturday at 5 p.m. EST.
