The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team won the Southeast District Championship on Saturday night at Orlando Health Stadium.
The Titans shut out Miami Dade College 3-0 in a game that featured two of the top 10 teams in the country. Eastern Florida State College held up the Southeast District Championship plaque for the second straight year and the team has punched their ticket to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament which will be Nov. 17 to 23 in Wichita, Kansas.
In the 15th minute of the contest freshman Liam Kuemmitz made a nice run and crossed the ball to a sliding Isaak Torossian who timed it perfectly, scoring the first goal of the game. The Titans continued to apply pressure to the Miami Dade College defense and 15 minutes later they would score again.
Rhys Shirley made a couple of nice moves to keep possession of the ball and his high cross went to Mukisa Emmanuel who hit it past the goalkeeper.
It would remain 2-0 into halftime as well as much of the second half. With five minutes left in the game the Titans put it away as Kuemmitz four Luc Achermann-Stanfield who did not miss, hitting a bullet into the corner of the net.
Up 3-0 in the contest, the Titans defense took center stage and they were up to the task, holding a potent Miami Dade offense in check, outshooting them 21-9 and recorded 30 steals.
The Titans are ranked seventh in the nation and are now 14-2-2 heading into the national tournament.
