
Men's soccer team plays Daytona State Friday in Region 8 semifinal
The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team will travel to Daytona State College for the Region 8 Tournament semifinal Friday night at Daytona State College soccer stadium.
The Titans, who are ranked No. 8 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, will play the No. 13 Falcons for the third time this season at 8 p.m. Friday. The teams tied in the first meeting 1-1 and then Eastern Florida State College beat Daytona State College last week 4-2.
Four different players scored in the win as Eastern Florida State College has won three of the past four games. Sophomore Luc Achermann-Stanfield has 17 assists this season which leads the nation. Teammate Mukisa Emmanuel has nine goals and four assists while Joao Loureiro has six goals and nine assists heading into the postseason.
Daytona State College comes into the matchup 1-1-2 in the conference and is led by the duo of Hector Moreno and Josue Youta who have each scored eight goals this season.
The winner of Friday's matchup will travel to Miami Dade College on Sunday for the Region 8 title. It is the first year that there has been a Region 8 Tournament in men's soccer.
Both teams in the Region 8 final will advance to the District Tournament on Nov. 1 and 2 at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.
