
Softball team back home for conference doubleheader Thursday
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will look to stay hot on Thursday when they host 19th ranked Santa Fe College in a Citrus Conference doubleheader.
Both teams are coming off some big wins in the past week and are in the hunt for a spot in the state tournament.
The 22nd ranked Titans picked up a sweep against No. 7 Miami Dade College on Tuesday and now host Santa Fe College who they split with earlier this season. The Saints split with No. 3 Indian River State College but lost to No 8 Seminole State College on Tuesday.
Both teams are in the top 10 in team ERA in the state as the Saints are fifth with a 2.49 and the Titans are ninth with a 3.07. Offensively the Titans are sixth with a team batting average of .331 while Santa Fe is 10th with a .304 average.
Karris Rhine leads the Saints, hitting .364 in 37 games while teammate Madison Conway is hitting .351 with 10 home runs and is tied for fifth in runs batted in with 40.
Eastern Florida State College's Avery Velazquez is tied for third with 15 wins this season and second in strikeouts with 118 in 145 1/3 innings of work. The freshman has a 1.64 ERA which is seventh in the state. Offensively, she is also tied for fifth in runs batted in with 40 and is hitting .414 in 40 games.
Madison Velazquez is hitting .441 in 22 games this season while teammate Aracelis Jimenez is hitting .357 as the leadoff hitter.
