Softball team opens conference season Tuesday at home
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will open the Citrus Conference season Tuesday afternoon in a battle of top 25 teams.
The Titans are ranked 20th and come into the conference doubleheader against No. 7 Miami Dade College in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
Miami Dade College is 2-0 in the conference and 12-0 overall after sweeping Santa Fe to open their conference season. The Sharks have hit 11 triples which is tied for third in the state and are hitting .352 this season.
Eastern Florida State College is fourth in the FCSAA in batting average, hitting .386 this season in 18 games. Ashley Grieser is hitting .542, starting all 18 games at third base while Aracelis Jimenez comes into the matchup hitting .456.
Avery Velasquez is 10-1 this season with a 1.09 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 57 2/3 innings and is hitting .426 with two home runs and has driven in 18 runs.
"We're excited to get rolling, going up against some heavy competition in the first three games, Miami Dade is coming off two wins against Santa Fe and are 12-0 so we are excited," Eastern Florida State College softball coach Andrew Zeger said.
Tuesday's doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m. and admission is free to games at Titan Softball Complex. Fans can also watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
