
Softball team hits road for doubleheader Tuesday
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will be on the road Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader at St. Johns River State College.
The Titans are 11-1 this season and are 2-1 against the Vikings this season. St. Johns River won the first meeting at the JUCO Kickoff and then the Titans swept the Vikings last week at home, winning 2-1 and 7-6. Eastern Florida State College is on a 10-game win streak heading into another busy week of games.
Freshman Avery Velazquez has hit her stride both on the mound and at the plate. Velazquez is 8-0 with a 0.78 ERA in 44 2/3 innings, striking out 37. At the plate, Velazquez is hitting .444 with two home runs and seven doubles and has drove in 15 runs.
Teammate Ashley Grieser is hitting .545 in 12 games this season while Aracelis Jimenez is hitting .472 and has had multiple hits in eight of the past nine games and three in a row.
Luci Walters tossed a no-hitter in the second game against South Florida State College on Saturday and is 3-0 this season.
Eastern Florida State College is at St. Johns River State College Tuesday afternoon and will be back home Thursday against Florida Gateway.
