Women's tennis team tops St. Petersburg

Women's tennis team tops St. Petersburg

The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team defeated St. Petersburg College 6-3 Friday in a Region 8 match.

The Titans lost two of the three doubles matches and took a 2-1 lead heading into singles. But the Titans dominated the singles matches to pull out the win.

Nayara Alvarez Martin and Leticia Orlandov teamed up to win the No. 3 doubles match 8-6 for the lone win in doubles.

Laura Yans lost the first set 6-3 and then won the second set 6-4 to force a third set. Yans dominated the third set 6-2.

Elena Martinez won in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while Maria Gento lost the first set and came back to win the second set 7-5 and won the third set 6-2 to give the Titans a win in the first three singles matches.

Dasha Moskalenko lost the first set 6-4 and then won the next two 6-3, 6-4 and Thais Mitlmeier won in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

The Titans are 1-1 now in the region and 3-2 overall. They will be back at home on March 22 against Franklin Pierce University beginning at 10:30 a.m.
