Women's tennis team in fifth at national tournament
The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team's quest for a national title ended in the semifinals on Tuesday.
The Titans lost all four semifinal matches at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Tyler, Texas. They remain in fifth place overall in the standings.
Freshman Maria Gento lost her No. 4 singles semifinal match against No. 1 seed Yoana Dudova, falling 6-1, 6-4.
Then Gento teamed with Thais Mitlmeier in the semifinals at No. 2 doubles, losing to Dudova and Sanne Schoormans 6-1, 6-1.
The No. 1 doubles team of Lucia Lucas and Emma Sanchez lost 6-3, 6-2 and the No. 3 doubles team of Sara Ladino and Elena Martinez Prado lost 6-0, 6-0.
The Titans finish the season in the top five in the national tournament for the second time in school history and had four events in the semifinals for the first time.
