Women's tennis team heads to Texas for national tournament
The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team is ready to compete at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Tyler, Texas.
The Titans, who are making their second straight and fourth overall appearance, will begin competing for a national title on Saturday.
Sophomores Lucia Lucas and Emma Sanchez are making their second straight appearance at the national tournament.
"For me, I am excited because it is a new team and I think we are ready," Lucas said. "We just have to be more competitive and support each other and be ready to play two matches every day. It is hot and playing tennis there is not easy."
Freshman Maria Gento reached the final at the Region 8 Championship at No. 4 singles, falling in the final and is ready for the national tournament.
"I have been working so hard this season and I got a good result. I think we can do even better in the national tournament," Gento said.
Joining Gento in the national tournament are freshmen Elena Martinez Prado, Thais Mitlmeier and Sara Ladino.
The first round of the tournament will be Saturday with the finals set for May 8.
