Women's tennis team picks up win Wednesday

Women's tennis team picks up win Wednesday

The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the spring season Wednesday afternoon at Titan Tennis Center.

The women's team defeated Bates College 7-2 winning five of the six singles matches to improve to 1-2 on the season.

In doubles the duo of Simona Karlsson and Luisa Renovales Salazar teamed up to win the No. 2 doubles 8-4.

The No. 1 doubles team of Kayla Greco and Kanna Kobayakawa battled the duo from Bates College, going to a tiebreaker which they scored the final four points to pick up the win 8-7(3) to give the Titans a 2-1 lead heading to the singles matches.

Eastern Florida State College would win five of the six singles matches to take the victory. Kobayakawa and Greco each picked up straight set wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. Karlsson battled Drew Williams in the first set as it was tight throughout with Karlsson picking up the 7-5 win. The Fuengirola, Malaga Spain native won the second set 6-2 to pick up the win.

Renovales Salazar picked up a straight set win at No. 4 singles and Paige Noble Lucas edged her opponent 7-6(4), 7-5 at No. 6 singles.

The women's tennis team will be back on the court Friday at 11 a.m. for a Region VIII match with Hillsborough Community College. Admission is free to matches at Titan Tennis Center.
