Women's golf team opens fall season this weekend

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team will open the fall season this weekend at the Seminole State College Fall Warm-up at the Mayfair Country Club.

Seminole State College, who has won three of the past four national titles, is hosting the season opener with Palm Beach Atlantic, Palm Beach State College, Florida Gateway, Edward Waters University and New College all competing.

"You have to endure Mayfair, the greens can be quirky," It is the first one of the season, so we just have to go out and play and see where we are. It will be good to see how we adjust," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We have a lot of stability coming from the sophomores and we are bonding well so far which is important."

The Titans come into the season with three returning players from last season's team that reached the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. Jenna Barnett, Brittany Odic and Emma Parker are back and looking to improve on last season.

"We did not play well, it was not a good way to finish last season so hopefully we get a chance to be better," Parker said. "I am excited to see where we are compared to the other teams, this is a test run for us. Maybe this year we can get closer and get them quaking in their boots."

Odic, who also played in the national tournament last season is excited to start the new season.

"We are a strong team, we have been shooting low scores and are all competitive which is good. We are excited about what we can do," Odic said.

Freshmen Mila Tang, Anne Burel and Cayden Challacombe will all be playing in their first collegiate event this weekend.

"It has been really good, my teammates have made it very comfortable to be around and it was one of the worries I had coming in," Burel said.

The Titans will tee off on Saturday and Sunday in Sanford for the first of four fall tournaments.
