Men's basketball team falls on last-second shot, locks up second in conference
The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team locked up second place in the Mid-Florida Conference standings and will host a play-in game for the state tournament on Tuesday night.
The Titans finished the regular season Wednesday night with a last-second loss at Santa Fe as Josiah Tynes hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Saints a 65-63 win over the Titans. It is the third time this season the Titans have lost on a last-second basket.
Eastern Florida State College trailed by one point at halftime but went on a 12-2 run to start the second half to take a 45-36 lead but the Saints would hit some key 3-pointers and took the lead back with 6:30 left.
Down four Jonathan Ned hit a big 3-pointer, his fourth of the night and then hit two free throws to give the Titans a lead once again. It would reach seven with 1:35 left but the Saints would score the final nine points to pull out the win.
Ned finished with 19 points with eight rebounds while Nick Alves scored 10 points for Eastern Florida State College.
Eastern Florida State College will wait to see who they will face Tuesday night at 7 p.m. for a spot in the FCSAA State Tournament.
