The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team locked up its second straight Mid-Florida Conference championship Wednesday night, defeating Daytona State College 60-58 on Sophomore Night at Titan Field House.
And it was the sophomores who came up big for the Titans down the stretch. Down five points with six minutes remaining, sophomore Nathanael Jack hit his first of two huge 3-pointers and then with 4:32 remaining sophomore Nick Stampley tied the game.
It remained tight throughout the final minutes but sophomore Ayo Dada and Stampley hit free throws in the final minute to ice the win for the Titans.
Sophomore Jalen Warren and Stampley each finished with 17 points in the game while Dada and Jack each had eight points.
The win also secures a spot in the FCSAA State Tournament at the College of Central Florida March 6-9.
The championship was the seventh straight conference title for head coach Jeremy Shulman, who won five straight Southern Conference titles before moving to the Mid-Florida Conference. For Shulman, it was win No. 230 at Eastern Florida State College.
The Titans, who are now 23-6 overall and 9-2 in the conference, will wrap up the regular season Saturday afternoon at Santa Fe College.
