The Eastern Florida State College softball team battled No. 2 seed Florida Southwestern right down to the final out, falling 8-6 Wednesday at the FCSAA Region 8 Tournament.
The Titans will play Santa Fe College at 1 p.m. Thursday in a win or go home game. The Saints lost to Indian River State College 3-1.
On Wednesday, Eastern Florida State College got on the board early, scoring on an RBI single from McKenzie Jewell and then Kyla Leppin laid down a nice bunt as Brooke Theisen scored from third on the squeeze.
Starting pitcher Hannah Strickland got out of a bases-loaded jam and then the Titans would add two more runs to make it 4-0.
The Bucs would score twice in the bottom of the second inning but Alanna O'Brien came in and got the strikeout to end the threat.
Florida Southwestern would cut it to 4-3 and it would stay that way until the fifth. The Titans would trail 8-4 in the seventh when Jenna Borkey came up with the bases loaded. She ripped a two-run single to make it 8-6 but the Titans could get no closer.
Jewell, Leppin and Borkey each had two hits in the game.
Thursday's consolation game at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater will be shown live on the FCSAA Digital Network.
