Women's basketball team tops St. Petersburg in conference matchup

The Eastern Florida State College women's basketball team lpicked up their ninth straight win, defeating St. Petersburg on the road Saturday.

The Titans defeated St. Petersburg 67-51 to improve to 8-0 in the conference and the 18th ranked Titans are 21-3 overall.

St. Petersburg led early in the game, but the Titans had a good second quarter to take a 34-30 lead into halftime.

The Titans would lead by double digits by the end of the third quarter and went on to win their ninth straight game.

Freshman L'or Eyeba Mputu scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Teammate Kaitlyn Sanders had 15 points and Rapuluchi Ngorka recorded her 13th double-double. Ngorka finished with 12 points and grabbed 21 rebounds. It is the seventh time this season that she has had 20-plus rebounds this season and third game in a row. Ngorka is now second on the all-time list in double-doubles for a season.

"Today was a gritty win on the road against a very physical and talented St. Petersburg team," Eastern Florida State College women's basketball coach MJ Baker said. "Our team showed toughness and heart in the second half to earn the win."

The Titans will travel to the Florida State College at Jacksonville Thursday night for a Central Conference matchup at 5:30 p.m.
