Softball team wins pair of thrilling conference games

The Eastern Florida State College softball team wrapped up the home schedule with two thrilling victories on Tuesday at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans won a wild first game that featured 10 hit batters and 22 runs and then came storming back with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up the sweep.

Eastern Florida State College is now 21-21 after picking up 13-9 and 4-3 wins. They are in fifth place in the conference standings, closing in on their first state tournament appearance since 2019.

In Game 1, both starting pitchers were out of the game by the second inning as the Titans would score four times in the bottom of the first and then Daytona State would strike back for five runs in the top of the second inning.

Sam Clark had a big two-run single in the first as the Titans took advantage of a couple of walks to put up four runs. Three hit batters and two walks helped the Falcons score five times as they would hit around in the second inning.

 The Titans would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Kyla Leppin and Madison Ford had RBI singles.

Trailing 6-5, Daytona State College would strike for four runs to take a 9-6 lead. Morgan Davis had the big hit, emptying the bases with a double.

Eastern Florida State College would score on Marisa Shoudt's RBI double to make it 9-7. Alanna O'Brien settled the Daytona State bats and then the Titans would come up big in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Livie Davis had a triple and scored, McKenzie Jewell has a double and scored and Leppin had a single and scored. Clark would walk and later score and Faith Campos had an RBI single and scored in the inning.

The six runs gave the Titans a 13-9 lead and O'Brien finished things off in the top of the seventh inning.

Daytona State College leadoff hitter Sky Ramos was hit four times in the game and injured her knee while catching and had to leave before her fifth AB.

In Game 2, the Titans found themselves trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Marisa Shoudt led off with a double and scored on Davis' RBI single. With Davis at first, Theisen singled, sending Davis to third. Theisen would take second on the first pitch to Jewell.

Jewell, who had already doubled and tripled in the game, stepped in and hit one past the shortstop and into left field. Davis would score easy and Theisen flew around third and eluded the tag to score the game winner.

The 4-3 victory was the 36th win of the season for the Titans who are now one win away from tying the 2011 Titans who had 37 wins.

The Titans will wrap up the regular season on Saturday afternoon, traveling to the State College of Florida, Manatee for a big conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
