Softball team falls to Florida Southwestern in doubleheader Saturday

The Eastern Florida State College softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader against No. 3 Florida Southwestern on Saturday afternoon.

After losing the first game 11-0 in five innings, the Titans found themselves down 6-0 heading to the seventh inning. That is when the bats came alive as the Titans fell just short, losing 6-5.

The Titans managed four hits in the first game as Livie Davis, Faith Campos, McKenzie Jewell and Marisa Shoudt each had singles in the loss.

In Game 2, the Titans trailed 6-0 heading to the seventh inning. Samantha Clark led off with a single, Sam Formosa singled and Ashley Corazzini hit into a fielder's choice. The first run scored on an error that had Davis reach first base. Campos walked and with the bases loaded, Jewell was hit by a pitch to make it 7-2. Mia Sanchez ripped a double, unloading the bases and making it 6-5 as both Campos and Jewell score. Shoudt followed with a single but with runners on first and third, the Bucs got out of the inning. Clark, who led off the inning with a single, came back up and hit a ball to right field but the outfielder made a diving catch to end the game.

Jewell and Formosa each had two hits in the game.

Florida Southwestern improved to 36-4 in the conference with the sweep.

Eastern Florida State College is now 19-21 in the Citrus Conference and remains in the final spot for the state tournament. The Titans will host Daytona State College in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m. Admission is free to Titan Softball Complex and you can watch the games live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
