Softball team sweeps St. Johns River on the road

The Eastern Florida State College softball team swept another doubleheader to improve to a program-best 15-1 this season.

The Titans defeated St. Johns River State College 5-2 and 6-0 to record the program's seventh sweep of the season.

In Game 1, Eastern Florida State College jumped out to an early lead as Faith Campos singled and scored on McKenzie Jewell's single. After a Samantha Clark single, Livie Davis stepped up and drove in both Jewell and Clark with a double.

St. Johns River State College would score a run in the third inning, but the Titans would add two more in the top of the fourth inning. A solo home run by Princess Arredondo in the sixth inning would make it 5-2.

 Luci Walters picked up the win, striking out two in the complete game win.

In Game 2, the duo of Alanna O'Brien and Hannah Strickland combined for the shutout.

O'Brien tossed three shutout innings but got in some trouble in the fourth inning but Strickland came in and got out of the two on, one out jam. Strickland would get out of jams in the fifth and sixth to preserve the shutout.

Maci Vonderstrasse hit a two-run double in the second inning and the Titans would add a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning.

Vonderstrasse drove in three runs while Brooke Theisen finished with two hits and drove in two runs. Clark and Jenna Borkey both also had two hits in the win.

Eastern Florida State College will open the Citrus Conference season next Tuesday, travelling to Indian River State College for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
