Men's golf team wins Dan York Memorial Tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team won the Dan York Memorial Tournament Tuesday at Cross Creek Golf Course in Cullman, Alabama.

It is the first time a Titans team has won an event at Cross Creek Golf Course under head coach Jamie Howell.

"Winning the Dan York Memorial Tournament is an honor as coach York was a personal friend and mentor to me," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "It was a tough day and the team hung in there. It is a good way for the team to begin what will be a competitive season."

Eastern Florida State College shot a 282 in the final round and beat the field by eight strokes, finishing the three rounds with an 836. Central Alabama CC finished second, shooting a 291 in the final round.

Sophomore John Houchin finished second overall in the tournament after a final-round 73. Houchin shot a 207 in the tournament and finished two strokes behind medalist Ryley Heath of Calhoun Community College.

Teammate Matt Gauntlett tied for third place with a 68 in the final round and finished with a 208 in the tournament. Brandon Boncore was tied for fifth with a 73 on Tuesday and shot 211 for the tournament.

Drew Lanier shot a 68 to finish tied for eighth and Ryan McMillan shot 227 for the tournament.

Eastern Florida State College will play at the Dalton State Fall Invitational in Innisbrook, Florida on Sept. 27-28.
