Men's basketball team wins season opener

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team pulled out a victory in the season opener against Palm Beach State College Wednesday night at Titan Field House.

The Titans traded shots with Palm Beach State College for much of the second half but with eight seconds remaining sophomore Brody Boyer hit a huge 3-pointer to help the Titans pick up the 60-58 win.

After falling behind early in the first half, the Titans came back and with the first half winding down the defense caused a shot clock violation and then Robert Berze beat the buzzer to give the Titans a 34-30 lead into halftime.

But Palm Beach State came out of the locker room by hitting three straight 3-pointers to take a five-point lead within the first two minutes of the second half. The Panthers lead would reach nine before a Titans 9-0 run to tie the game 47-47.

Christyon Eugene led the Titans with 12 points while Boyer, Nick Alves and Robert Berze each finished with nine.

Phillip Smith led the Panthers with 13 points.

The Titans will hit the road Saturday to play the State College of Florida-Manatee at 4 p.m.
